Glædelig Jul // Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays all you lovely people out there. Stay safe and warm. Even if you don't like Christmas time, I hope you have a nice few days with loads of yummy food ^___^

It's Christmas month!!!

December is here, which is my favourite month a year. I've always loved Christmas, always been amazed by all the lights, wrapping presents, baking, decorating the house, crafting with my family and being with my friends. Not that I can't do that the rest of the year, but there's something magical about December. The early starting evenings, the cold air and clear nights. I'm absolutely in fucking love with Christmas and December. So I hope you're ready to share my favourite time a year with me. School ends next week so I get loads of time to focus on posts. I'll try and do DIYs, share recipes and just talk about things that make me happy and appreciate life.

Happy Holidays, my friends.

❄ Happy Holidays ❄

Lui and I wanted to wish you all happy holidays! It's Little Christmas Eve which means my brother and I are going to our grandmother's house to decorate the Christmas tree, I'm super excited. I've spend the morning watching advent calenders while faffing around my room. I haven't had the strong Christmas feeling this year, but I am happy and excited and that is all that matters!

If the holidays is a sad time for you, I will send you the biggest and warmest hugs and kisses. Whatever makes this time sad for you, I'm sorry and I hope you will still have a nice time, it'll soon be over.

♡ Happy Holidays! ♡

Last minute gift guide 2014

Books:I'm pretty sure we all know a book worm who's at-home-library cannot get big enough, so why not add to their obsession? It can be anything from a classical novel to a Zombie Apocalypse Survival Guide to a cheesy romance book.

Sweets and snacks:
Food is the way to anyone's heart, so a quick and easy present is to throw together a food basket/box. Gather all their favourite treats, anything from coffee or tea to crisps and chocolate. Throw in a nice jolly card and call it a day! Also - making the treats yourself can also be an idea. Get in the kitchen and create!

Personal things:
There's nothing like a home made and personal present. I'm a firm believer in making special people for the special people in my life. It can be a painting, a pillow, some ceramics, a wooden bird house, a notebook with funny stories about you two, a photo book! Anything that will make the person melt with happiness.

Film or series:
A good present could also be something they can spend the post-Christmas-days on watching in their comfy clothes. I personally know the feeling of loving a series but I'm always like "Nah, shouldn't buy it right now", but I keep wanting it, so Christmas is a perfect time to get that special series for someone! For extra happiness points, add in some home made treats or a new PJ set (maybe even one that matches yours if you're going to watch it together)

Games:
It doesn't have to be a video game, it can also be a fun board game. My boyfriend loves his PS3 (probably soon PS4) and when I have no idea what to get him, I'll most likely get him a game for his PlayStation. But in my family we love playing board games together, especially my grandmother. Again, could be a fun thing to do together on the post-Christmas-days while you nom on the last bit of treats and Christmas dinner!

Home ware:
Give me some Yankee Candles or some nice vases and I'm in heaven. And I KNOW I'm not the only one who feels like that! Candles, glasses, book ends, table cloths, pillows, new sheets, trinket boxes, tea light holders, trays, YOU NAME IT! Pop into your local home decor shop and I'm sure there's things you'll see and think "xxx will LOVE this!"

I hope you enjoyed my little gift guide. I know it's late, but I completely forgot about it. I wish you a merry Christmas and a safe and wonderful New Year.

It's the most wonderful time of the year

Christmas is my favourite time a year. I love decorating for it, I love buying Christmas presents, I love all the Christmas things in the shops. I love drinking peppermint hot chocolate, I love cute wrapping paper, I love it all!

Sean came to visit from the 29/11 till the 7/12, which was the first time, in our almost 5 years, that we were actually together in the winter months! We did most of the obligatory Christmas things, like went to Christmas markets, decorated, watched Christmas lights all over the place. I loved it. I love sharing this time with someone I have so dear.

I hope Christmas is a time with love for you too.

A few holiday tips to keep in mind

Before you yell "BUT IT'S NOT EVEN HALLOWEEN/THANKSGIVING/MORTENS AFTEN/BONFIRE NIGHT/OTHER EVENT BETWEEN NOW AND CHRISTMAS", hear me out!

Christmas can be very stressing if you're not prepared. You miss out on the calm and lovely time Christmas is all about, because you're busy trying to find presents and shopping for Christmas parties and dinners and what not. So I'm here to help you!

Basically, write down everything. What you're going to buy for Christmas parties, Christmas dinner, presents for people and whatever else you have going in December. Last minute planning can make the experience even more stressful, especially with presents. Things can be sold out fast, or not on offer any more or won't come back in stock until the 20th December.

With presents, have back up plans too. Want to give your mum a necklace you remember her drooling over a few months ago? That's great, but IN CASE they're sold out, write down a few other things that would do too.

You can even buy presents a month before if you're sure that's what they REALLY want. Then there's no fuss with being able to return items. I've already bought most of Sean's presents, and when I'm writing this it's the 22nd October.

Positives about online Christmas shopping:
  • You can often find really good deals online
  • Saves you the fuss of stressing times at the shopping centre
  • No long queues to pay and get your items wrapped
  • Some websites actually offers to wrap your items
  • Items that are sold out in shops can sometimes be found online
  • Some online shops might do free shipping because of Christmas time (WOO FREE SHIPPING)
  • No rude people shouting at the poor shop staff that ruins your good Christmas mood

Negatives about online Christmas shopping:

  • Shipping might be delayed if you order too late
  • Items might break in transaction
  • Items might not be what you thought it would be
  • Not easy to return if the receiver isn't happy with the item
  • Order mix ups in general (it is Christmas times and even online shop people get confused)
  • Insane shipping prices

Other tips, check the online shops you're going to buy from (unless it's things like Amazon or Matas/Superdrug/Boots/Ulta/other big name shops you KNOW are fine because millions of people use them every day) I don't know if TrustPilot is an international thing, but you can always Google "Reviews on *name of online shop*" and see what people say about the sites. Christmas is also the time for idiots to be scamming, so watch out for your bank and yourself!

Christmas can be a stressing time because you feel like there's 100 things to do in the span of a few days. But don't worry, re-fucking-lax. Plan out your days. When you've bought all the presents you need, take a day to find the wrapping paper and put on some good music and just wrap away. Need to bake? Devote a Saturday to baking, call your friends or family for a nice baking day together. It doesn't need to be stressing. So think wisely, breathe, plan and it'll be perfectly fine!

No one can deny it. Christmas is bloody expensive. But it doesn't have to be that way!
  • Set a price limit for presents for people. I could be 200 kr (£20, $40, whatever currency you use) for each person you need to buy for. And remember - it's not the price of items that matters, it's the thought
  • Stop with the impulse buys. "IT LOOKS SO CUTE!", yes it does, but do you really NEED it? No? Put it down!
  • Stick to your lists as much as possible. It's okay to go away from them if things are sold out or are not as expected, but sticking to it will also save you from going all over the place with your buys
  • Check catalogues and online catalogues to see what's on offer. Sometimes it's worth going to certain shops if things are on a discounted price.

I'm a bit crafty myself. I can sew, cross stitch, glue things together. And I personally love to receive things I know others have taken the time and thought to make me. Not that buying someone a present is a bad thing, but we are some souls out there who cannot help but adore the charm of home made presents. It can be anything from pillows for their new sofa, a blanket for the bed, a painting of someone/something they love, jewellery, a scarf, anything your heart desires!

I hope these few tips could be a bit helpful for the coming holiday season! And please don't kill me for this ;-)

Was I NAUGHTY or NICE this year?

Disclaimer: I am not bragging with the presents I got. If you cannot handle me showing off some bits, just click out, it's not that hard, there's an "x" on the tab. I like to look back on what I got, so it's mostly for myself to be honest. And I got some pretty sweet things if I say so myself.

This beautiful initials necklace from my brother. (M for Malle and S for Sean/Seanie)

Two gorgeous crystal necklaces and the best book I've ever come across from Seanie! <3

My grandmother has this tradition with giving me something with an angel on every year for Christmas. This year wasn't any exception! It says "Our little angel. You've been a miracle since you were born. This angel will guide you with love through life. We love you!"

My fantastic mother gave me my favourite perfume! She gave me one 2 years ago which I've barely used half of because it's so expensive and I've been scared to use it, but I think I can allow myself to use it a bit more now!

Menu jewellery tree from my mum's best friend. I was so shocked to receive this, it's so beautiful and I think I screamed a tiny bit. You shouldn't have you lovely bum burp!

A beautiful lamb fur from my cousins, aunt and uncle. It's so freaking soft, I sat and hugged it for like 10 minutes when I got it.
My mum also got me one of these (I think she's going to get another one for me) candle holders! I really like it. I'll be trying and redo my room a bit again when I take down my Christmas decorations!

I also got some money, gift cards and other bits and bobs. I was such a lucky girl this year, and I'm so thankful for everything I got and it was a very very lovely Christmas eve with my family.

Tomorrow is New Years eve, which I will spend alone because I want to. I don't like New Years Eve, I don' party, I don't drink, I don't like eating fancy food and slap on glitter on my face. So this year I'm at home, eating nuggets with my dog. But for everyone else, if you're going out, please be safe and drink responsibly! And the most important, just have fun and may you have a good start on 2014.

See you next year!

My Christmas.

The days leading up to Christmas eve was spend shopping for the last few food bits (nom!) and baking (even more nom!) Believe it or not, this wasn't even all of the biccies and treats we made! I love baking with my mum, and baking in general. It makes the house smell so much more like a home and come on, who doesn't love some good home baked goodies?

Despite not having Christmas at my house, it's always at my grandma's place, we cannot live without getting a tree. It isn't anything amazing, but we love it, it was such fun to decorate. We're very simple and traditional. Oh and if you didn't know, the Greenlandic flags represent the Greenlandic part of my family. It's from my dad's side, which makes my brother and I 1/4 part Greenlandic!

Buster loves presents. We packed up all of them little Christmas eve (23rd) before going to decorate the tree at my grandma's house, and he was sniffing and digging his little curious nose in the presents!

Christmas Eve is always calm with us. Despite having a hard time controlling my anxiety, I was able to enjoy it and relax. My aunt and her husband came to celebrate with us. Normally it's my uncle, grandma, brother, mother, Buster and I, but it was nice being a few more for a change. I didn't get a lot of pictures of the evening, it was just very relaxed. We ate dinner (this year trying out goose which I found out I really enjoy!), sang a few Christmas songs and danced around the tree.

We are a family who loves to spoil our pets. Buster is the most spoilt little fuzzy bunch we know. So after a very exhausting day watching TV, cuddling, eating food and the most exciting - OPENING PRESENTS! Buller took a little nap with his favourite present, a tennis ball.

When we got home, I showed Seanie my presents and let him open two pressies! One of them being this penguin pillow pet. His name is Albert! Seanie and I love penguins, Seanie probably being the most excited about them. And unfortunately earlier this month his dog got to another penguin I got him the first time we physically met, which was a weird coincidence because I bought Albert before the accident happened. But I can say, Seanie loves Albert so much. He told me he woke up Christmas morning cuddling him. It melted my heart. The other pressie he opening Christmas Eve was some art work I made and I'm really proud of.

And that was it really! 1st Christmas day (which is just Christmas days for those who celebrate the 25th) we just slept, ate more food, watched more TV and played with Buller and his new favourite ball.

How was your Christmas? Did you eat twice your weight in delicious food? Did you spend time with people you have dear? Did you get some nice presents? And most important.. Did the people you got presents for love them? That's my favourite things. Spending time with family, eating and seeing how people like the things I got them!

(I will make a what I got for Christmas at some point before the new year I hope)

Happy holidays, lovelies xx
